Daily Scripture: Nourishment for your Soul

“And Adam called his wife’s name Eve, because she was the mother of all living. Also for Adam and his wife the Lord God made tunics of skin, and clothed them. Then the Lord God said, “Behold, the man has become like one of Us, to know good and evil. And now, lest he put out his hand and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live forever”— therefore the Lord God sent him out of the garden of Eden to till the ground from which he was taken. So He drove out the man; and He placed cherubim at the east of the garden of Eden, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to guard the way to the tree of life.” Genesis‬ ‭3‬:‭20‬-‭24‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

What a good Father we have!

When God the Father created us, He gave us the choice to trust Him and choose Him or to make our own choices. He placed the tree of life and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil in the garden and gave Adam and Eve the free will to choose which one they would eat from. Even though He told them not to eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, they chose to ignore God’s Word and listen to the enemy instead.

Pride is what cost us the tree of life. But the loving and merciful Father that He is, He still made a way for us to have eternal life and, one day, eat from the tree of life again in Heaven through Jesus.

“He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To him who overcomes I will give to eat from the tree of life, which is in the midst of the Paradise of God.” — Revelation 2:7 NKJV

We still choose today to ignore God’s Word and walk in obedience to Him, and instead, we choose to listen to the enemy and our flesh. But when we look at the entire Bible, from Genesis to Revelation, we see the love and mercy God truly has for us.

Even though we chose to deny Him, He loves us so much that He gave His Son so that we could once again have access to the tree of life.

It’s time to surrender.

It’s time to look at our own hearts and ask God to reveal anything that is not of Him so that we can remove those things from our lives. God deserves more than what we give Him. He did not give us Jesus so that we could continue living in sin and take advantage of His grace. He gave us Jesus because He loves us and wants us to be able to eat from the tree of life again in Heaven and spend all of eternity with Him.

It’s time to surrender to Jesus, give Him our whole hearts, and allow the Holy Spirit to guide us so that we no longer continue to eat from the tree of evil. Instead, let us give all our praise and glory to Jesus—the One who made a way for us to return to the tree of life.
